Aim

Bible Text

Matthew 7: 24 - 27

Biblical Background

... books contains a paragraph to put it in perspective ...

Worship Time

(See week 1, Worship Time for details on resources needed)

Song Suggestion(s) for this week : Rock Solid & Strong Foundation

Teaching Time

Sound Stage - The Sound of building

Set up sound stage and choose a child to make each sound. Give them time to practice and a key word that they must be ready to respond to. Have the key word written on a piece of paper in front of them. Once they are ready begin to read the story.

The Sounds :

Building - Saw and wood
Rock - walking on rocks
Sand - sand falling onto metal
Rain - water falling onto metal
Steam rising- iron - shot of steam
Wind - Wind noise on microphone
Beating sound - banging drum
Crashing - sound on keyboards
Cheering - Whole audience. (Sign)

Story :

There once was a wise man who built (Saw) his house on the rock (Rock). He built (Saw) it strong and built (Saw) it securely on the foundation of rock (Rock). It took a long time but eventually it was finished. (Cheer). So when the rain (Rain) came down, and the steam (Steam) rose, and the winds (Winds) blew and began beating (Beating) against the house - It stood strong (Cheer) because it was built (Saw) upon the rock (Rock)(Cheer).

Now there was also a foolish man who built (Saw) his house on the sand (Sand). It was built (Saw) as best he could, even though the sand (Sand) kept moving. It took even longer than he thought but eventually, he finished. (Cheer). So when the rain (Rain) came down, and the steam (Steam) rose, and the winds (Winds) blew and began beating (Beating) against the house - the house fell down with a big crash. (Crash)

What will you build (Saw) your life on a rock (Rock) that is Jesus or the sand (Sand) that is the world. So when the rain (Rain) comes down, and the steam (Steam) rises, and the winds (Winds) blow and begin beating (Beating) against you - you will either fall down with a big crash. (Crash) or stand strong (Cheer).

Thankyou everyone !

Things that make you go Hmmm

The Scripts are found in Section 4. Two characters comment on today's teaching. Each of them see the game of life as very different adventures, giving the children God's view and he opposite view to think about.... hopefully making them go Hmm....

Small Group Time

The Game

(See Section 5 for details of how this will run)

This week's challenges : Rock = Jesus

Challenge 1 : Follow the leader - The children must choose to follow pictures of rocks OR pictures of sand to get through to the point where they finish at a big rock. (Here they receive their first mark to show that they have successfully completed the challenge). If they follow the sand it will lead to a pile of sand with a sign saying "Ooops !" (No guidance just have to work it out themselves.) Have a starting point and then let each group go a little bit staggered. Let them work it out for themselves.

Challenge 2 : The Pits - Two pits beside each other - Yellow slime in one /pebbles in the other - if they look in the pebbles they will find coloured tags (Once they choose they cannot do the other). A clue can be at the start in riddle form.

NB. You might like to keep the slime for next week's challenge.

Today they receive their first basic vitalmon : Rock / (Potentially) Rock - level 2 - If they successfully complete the challenges in the Game.

Memory Work

... see book for more details on memory verse and how it can be presented...

Application Time

Heads Down (In Small Groups)

(See Section 1 / 5 for details of how this time will run)

In your small groups discuss the verses and the message for the day and place the sticker into their vitaldex.

"He lifted me out of the ditch, pulled me from the deep mud, he stood me up on a solid rock to make sure I wouldn't slip" Psalm 40 : 2

Questions you could use to aid discussion :

1. Why does it say we are in a ditch and need to be lifted out ?
2. What words come to mind when you think of a Rock ?
3. How can Jesus be a stable and secure force in your life ?
