Note: These samples are intended to give you an idea of what the program is like but do not contain the entire contents for that week of the program

Here are a few pages of samples of the discovery learning material provided for one of the weeks of the Bodyworx package.

Aim

To teach the children that God has a plan for their life.

To teach the children that God is wanting us to search for that plan and fulfil it.

Bible Text

Biblical Background

... books contains a paragraph to put it in perspective ...

Worship Time

The masters of the words to these songs are in Appendix E. Copy them onto OHP transparency for the children to sing along with. You might like to get the children to make up actions for the songs. Alternatively, see Section 6 for details on a worship video which shows actions for many of the songs, taped in a live setting with kids enjoying worship.

Song Suggestions for this week :
1. Strong Foundation (CD- Track 2/ Backing Track 8)
2. Just One Day (CD - Track 1 / Backing Track 7)

Drama Summary

Professor Von Vonahan creates the head first, in order that the head will help him with the rest of the body. But the head thinks it knows better and thinks it's fine on it's own. He refuses to cooperate with the professor and they end up in an argument. The head being " Headstrong" does his own thing to find that he gets caught with a bucket over his head and no means of getting out off because he doesn't have any arms. Yelling and apologising to the professor he begs for help. The professor takes the bucket off and the head realises maybe the professor was right in wanting to create the rest of the body for him to be complete.Teaching Time

The Jonah Adventure

There are eight places / areas that need to be set up beforehand. These areas can be set up however you like, below are some ideas. The idea is that the children move with you to each new point to hear the next bit of Jonahs life. Each area has something to simulate feelings, temperature, emotions etc..It is a lot of fun as well as giving them experiences they will help them remember what Jonah experienced. Move to each new area, settle them down and continue on the experience on Jonah. Know it well enough to be able to tell in your own words, using the experiences the children are in to keep their interest. Move to the first area and begin telling the experiences of Jonah.

1. The Signpost
Have two signposts saying "Gods way" and "My way"
Jonah was someone who loved God. He was someone who had talents in speaking and he would speak to people everywhere about God. So he knew his talent that God had given him and he thought he knew how God wanted him to use it. One time he knew that he heard God say to go and speak to a group of people, but he knew that would cause trouble, so he thought he knew better. He went his own way.

Memory Work

... see book for more details on memory verse and how it can be presented...

Application Time

Jonah tried to run away from what God wanted him to do. Things only started to go OK for him when he was doing what God wanted him to do. So often we think we know what's best and get ourselves in trouble.

Has anyone ever found themselves in trouble, when mum or dad or a teacher asked you to do something one way but you tried to do it your own way? (It is good to have an example of your pwn, to let the kids see you have messed up sometimes too)

We don't want to end up like the head in our play, with our head stuck in a box. Let's not try to be someone we are not or copy someone else.

Ask the children to tell you something they are good at. If they don't know, hopefully one of the leaders or yourself should know something about that child. Many children don't beleive they are good at anything and we have to try to change this view they have of themselves. This is an important time for encouragement. Spend as much time as you like on it, building and encouraging the kids.

Work Groups
Time to Break into your work groups. See Section 5 for more details.
NB: Check Section 5 to discover other ideas that you might like to include during your small group work, if you have extra time or want to mix it up a little.
