Note: These samples are intended to give you an idea of what the program is like but do not contain the entire contents for that week of the program
Here are a few pages of samples of the discovery learning material provided for one of the weeks of the Play to Learn program.

To teach that God wants us not to give up when it gets tough.
... books contains a paragraph to put it in perspective ...
The impossible task
Ask if there is a volunteer who thinks they have stamina, guts and stickability to not give up? You will set a task for them to do in front of everyone. Give them a limited amount of time and see if they can finish the task.
Now get a different child for a second time and let them do it but this time there will be obstacles and problems that come along which they will not be able to foresee. You can have number of leaders causing the problems or just one leader who is being difficult or one leader who pretends to be a whole lot of different people (which if done well could be very humorous)
The Task:
Is to build a wall, 7 rows high with the materials you've been given in a given time frame.
1st time: As the clock starts he/she begins. ( The aim is for the child to complete the task)
2nd time: As the clock starts he/she begins and so also do the difficulties. The leader(s) will come continually interrupting and making it hard for the child.
Problems:
• Leader comes in and distracts him/her from the work
• Leader makes fun of what he's trying to do. (Not personally abusive, just towards the wall)
• Leader attacks and tried to destroy the wall.
• Leader begs for money and pleads to be fed.
• Leader tries to kill the child (pretend of course)
TIMES UP!!!!
(You might also try another child with the distraction, this time they will know what to expect and it will show their determination)
Building Blocks of some sort (Lego, Mega Blocks etc... the bigger the better for all to see.)
Leaders as Distractors.
Visuals (following page) - put onto a OHP and colour.
For the Child(ren) who didn't finish:
Q: Why didn't you finish
Q: Did you feel like giving up? Why? When?
Q: What made it hard to do?
Put up Visual Aids:
Nehemiah had a similar problem. He tried to build this wall and people made fun of him, tried to kill him, his workers started complaining about food and being hungry so he had to make sure they were fed. He had every reason to quit, give up.
But he didn't because he knew that it was important and knew that it would please God. He went to God for strength and help when he didn't know what to do.
