Dear Friends.... - Worksheet / Small Group Discussion
In small groups give them sometime to work on the worksheet that looks at Paul's life and the adventures he got up to. They can do a worksheet each OR do a worksheet together. They will all need a Bible and the leader will need to help them find the different Bible references. If your children find reading and writing difficult OR they are just not responding positively to doing so, have the leader lead it like a study and get them to find teh passages. Discuss what they find and how they might answer the question. The most important thing is to talk about Paul's situation and look at what we learn from it.
Small Group
To talk about the difficult things that can happen when you are running the race and how you might cope with them. Talk about the 6 things below and decide who will try to conquer which task. Explain to the children that the race is designed to be challenging today, so just give it your best shot.
Race for the day:
1. Blow up a balloon until it pops in your face
2. Get a coin from a bucket of slime
3. Eat vegemite off a spoon
4. Climb rope/wall to a certain point and touch it
5. Answer a hard question from "Trivia Pursuit" - if you get it wrong get a cup of water on head, then tag next person/ If you get it right can tag next person straight away.
6. Hard obstacle track - crawling in ground through flour etc..
And the winner is.....
... see book for more details on memory verse and how it can be presented...
In small groups they sit around a seat and one at a time they must sit in the seat and be asked a question from the front. They have 30 seconds to think about their answer. Talk to the children about the times when we are put on the spot or in a sticky situations. It will not always be easy, but the most important thing to do is our best.
Issue
When playing your favourite sport, the referee calls something that you know is wrong, but it allows the other team to score. They are winning and you feel ripped off. There is still 10 minutes left in the game, how do you choose to spend the last 10 minutes of the game even though you probably can't win from this point on?
